Free Hosting Included

Hosting is the space your website lives in. What matters is not the price but whether you can leave — and what happens when something goes wrong at 9pm.

What hosting actually does

Your site's files sit on a server. When someone types your address, that server sends them the page. Hosting is renting that space and the connection it sits on.

Bundled with a build, it removes a decision and a separate bill. What matters is what the arrangement includes and what it means if you ever leave.

What a hosting setup should include

  • An SSL certificate, kept current. When one expires, browsers show a full-page security warning and most visitors leave immediately. Renewal should be automatic, not something someone remembers.
  • Automatic backups, stored elsewhere. A backup on the same server as the site isn't a backup.
  • Reasonable performance. Cheap oversold hosting is fast sometimes and slow at random, which is worse for visitors than consistently mediocre.
  • Someone to contact. The practical value of managed hosting isn't the disk space — it's that a person handles it when something breaks.
The question that matters most

"If I want to leave, what do I take with me?"

The right answer is: all your files, and your domain points wherever you say. Some arrangements have you renting a site on a platform you can never move — stop paying and it's gone, with nothing to take elsewhere.

Ask before, not after. This is the same principle as owning your design source files.

Hosting is not a speed fix

Better hosting reduces the time before the server starts responding. It does nothing about a page shipping eight megabytes of images. A heavy site is slow on any host.

Fix the page first — see speed optimization — and understand that the original build sets the ceiling, covered in lightning-fast builds.

Where the domain fits

If your site is already hosted somewhere and you just want it looked after, that's managing your existing site. Hosting and domain get bought together and confused constantly. They're separate, and the domain is the one that causes real problems when it's in the wrong name. See we handle your domain transfer.

What happens after launch

Hosting keeps the site online. It does nothing about content going stale, software going out of date, or a contact form that quietly stopped delivering. That's a separate and more important concern — ongoing updates and edits.
